  • Salary: $97,955 - $111,142 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed term role: until 2 July 2026

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Policy Officer, Small Business Policy, this position provides authoritative policy support and advice on small businesses in Victoria. As a Policy Officer in Small Business and Employment, you'll be part of an energetic, agile team responsible for developing advice to Government to help Victoria's small businesses grow, invest, employ and export. 

Main accountabilities:

  • Prepares reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues that impact at program or organisational level 
  • Researches and develops recommendations in a specific field of expertise 
  • Applies sound theoretical and practical expertise in development of policy options 

The Team

The position of Policy Officer forms a part of the Small Business and Employment branch within the Economic Policy, Programs and Services group.

Economic Policy, Programs and Services Group (EPPS) supports delivery of sustainable economic development and employment growth for Victoria. Small Business and Employment fosters economic growth and job creation in Victoria by helping prospective business owners, self-employed Victorians, and small and medium enterprises to thrive in an inclusive, fair and competitive business environment.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • Policy Design and Development: Interprets and applies policies relevant to own work; Drafts policies and business cases using research skills and in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Influence and Persuasion: Consistently adapts the content, style, message or tone of a presentation to suit the audience and plans how to tackle objections; Applies own ideas by linking them to others' values, needs and goals. 
  • Working Collaboratively: Builds a supportive and cooperative team environment; Engages other teams to share information in order to understand or respond to issues; Supports others in challenging situations.
