The position of Senior Investment Manager forms a part of the Business Investment and Engagement branch within the Jobs, Innovation and Business Engagement Group.

The Business Investment and Engagement Group is responsible for business investment and facilitation and operates at five sites including the Metropolitan Victorian Government Business Offices (VGBO's).

The Group promotes Victoria as an investment location and works with companies and institutions to attract and deliver investment projects, enable jobs growth and build business cases for investing in Victoria. Teams are responsible for lead generation, investment pipeline development, investment management, business networking, intelligence gathering and referrals to support growth in key sectors, places and markets.

Key industry sectors include Digital, ICT, Advanced Manufacturing, AgriFoods, Energy, Health and Life Sciences.

The position is responsible for facilitating and delivering investment and job growth opportunities for Victoria. Your ability to identify and develop investment opportunities will see you working across priority sectors to secure new investment. It will also see you developing and implementing market development strategies.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge and experience in various industry sectors along with a comprehensive understanding of the global and business environment, investment trends and ability to proactively target investments for Victoria.

The key accountabilities of the role are:

  • Attract and facilitate new business investment and re-investment in the State.
  • Develop and lead strategies that achieve key business growth deliverables aligned with the department's precinct, sector and employment strategies, including promoting and securing investment into Victoria. Initiate, identify and manage strategic lead generation activities for these sectors and places.
  • Establish and manage strong working relationships, including through commercial negotiations and grant management, with senior management in the private sector.
  • Develop sound working relationships and collaboration across the local and international office network and sector teams across the department and broader government, to deliver investment opportunities.
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as Invest Victoria, Austrade, industry associations and institutes and represent the department at meetings and conferences.
  • Provide high-level briefings, specialist advice and support to Ministers and senior management on commercial and sensitive opportunities and issues relevant to business, investment and economic development.
  • Line management responsibility for 1-2 business investment specialists.
