The position of Sector Policy Officer forms a part of Advanced Manufactoring branch of the Industry Development and Innovation division, which is responsible for the development of priority sectors within the Victorian economy, in the Employment, Investment and Trade Group. 

The division comprises the following Sector teams: Advanced Manufacturing (incorporating Defence, Transport, Construction and Manufacturing); Digital and Bio Economy (incorporating ICT / Technology, Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals and Professional and Community Services); International Education; and Telecommunication.

Each Sector team develops and maintains sector strategies and policy, and provides Departmental and government coordination and responses specific to that sector. The Sector team provides a key interface point for and consults appropriately with key stakeholders and related agencies, and provides portfolio and Ministerial services (e.g. to support Cabinet or the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee).The division also includes an Industry Transition team and an Insights and Industry Competitiveness team.

The Sector Policy Officer position forms part of the Advanced Manufacturing Team in the Industry Development and Innovation Division of the Employment, Investment and Trade Group. This team is responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of strategies and initiatives to support industry development, trade and investment. The sector team provides a key interface with industry stakeholders and other government agencies.  

Reporting to the Sector Strategy Manager, this position is responsible for undertaking research and analysis and preparing high-level advice for senior management and Ministers on a variety of policies, programs and activities to support the growth of Victoria's future industries, particularly in relation to the manufacturing, construction and transport sectors. 

The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the team. You will have an understanding of the challenges and issues faced by industry and the role of government in supporting industry growth. Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills, and experience and attention to detail in the preparation of reports and briefs are vital to this role.
