Senior Policy Officer
- Salary: $113,022 - $136,747 (Plus Superannuation)
- Fixed Term role: 2 years
- Usual hours of work: Full-time (flexibility may be available)
- Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne CBD (flexibility may be available)
The Role
The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for working across the Industry, Construction and Manufacturing team and the broader department to support the design of industry development policy and strategies that leverage internal and external opportunities to strengthen the Victorian economy.
The Senior Policy Officer role focuses on shaping Victorian industry policy, delivering new industry development initiatives and programs and engaging with key industry, academia and government stakeholders to strengthen and grow the economy.
Main accountabilities:
- Prepare a range of written communications for an internal and external audience including business cases and value propositions for external audience and briefs and reporting for senior department executives.
- Provide industry research and analysis, strategic advice, and policy direction, including advice on industry intelligence, opportunities and risks.
- Pursue and assist with strategic opportunities for industry across the department, government and industry that are aligned with the government's priorities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including planning and implementing stakeholder consultative forums, and work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders.
The Team
The position of Senior Policy Officer forms a part of the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent branch within the Industry, Trade and Investment group.
The Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent (IDCMT) Branch is responsible for shaping and ensuring the delivery of the Victorian Government's industry development agenda. The branch develops policies and delivers programs that drive sustainable economic growth and workforce inclusion, leading to higher living standards for all Victorians. The branch does this by:
- using deep engagement and insights to lead the development and delivery of industry policies for Victoria
- creating opportunities for local SMEs and employees, including apprentices, trainees and cadets, to participate
- in government projects
- supporting the growth of strategic industry sectors, the transition of evolving sectors, and enhanced productivity
- simplifying business operations by supporting councils to reduce regulatory processes
- equipping businesses with the necessary skills for growth and enabling Victorians to secure higher-paid jobs.
About You
Use your extensive experience in building strategic relationships and proven ability to negotiate, influence and gain consensus at senior levels within both the private and public sectors to achieve the objectives of this role.
Your expertise in developing and managing outcome focussed, complex projects, policies, industry initiatives and programs that contribute to industry growth and development will drive and shape this role.
