The position of Senior Policy Adviser forms a part of the Tourism Events and Visitor Economy branch of the Creative, Sport and Visitor Economy group within the DJPR.

The Tourism, Events and Priority Infrastructure Group works to strengthen Victoria's reputation as Australia's leading tourism and events destination with a key focus on driving both economic and social benefits for the community and visitors alike, ensuring that the best visitor experiences are accessible to everyone.

The Infrastructure Facilitation Team is a newly established unit with responsibility to strategically deliver tourism investment and infrastructure projects funded through the State Budget to drive the recovery of Victoria's visitor economy.

The Senior Policy Adviser reports to the Manager Tourism Investment Facilitation and has the following responsibilities.

  • Provide authoritative advice on complex policy issues and risks to the Minister, Secretary and senior leadership on matters relating to the government's tourism, planning and infrastructure policies, programs and strategies.
  • Provide strategy, policy and coordination support for governance structures and decision-making bodies in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Develop high quality, clear and concise policy submissions, briefings, letters, PowerPoint presentations and reports for Ministers and DJPR senior leadership.
  • Engage proactively across other areas of DJPR, government and external stakeholders to identify and escalate issues to senior executives and through relevant governance structures.
  • Effectively negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to gain cooperation, influence views, and achieve business objectives.
  • Show initiative and self-manage competing and conflicting priorities to deliver high-quality work to senior executives.
