Position Details

Project Officer, Compliance (multiple)

  • Salary: $100,894 - $114,476 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed term role: until 30 June 2027
  • Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne CBD (flexibility may be available)

The Role

You will work in a high-performing team to support the Local Jobs First Commissioner's advocacy, facilitation and compliance role by applying continuous improvement to strengthen processes, reporting and the accuracy of compliance activities under the Local Jobs First Act 2003.

This position plays a key role in the Commissioner's monitoring and compliance activities by producing industry insights, research, analysis and advice that contributes to the Commissioner's frameworks, strategies, plans, briefs, reports, presentations and online information.

Main accountabilities:

  • contribute to the delivery of the Local Jobs First Commissioner's compliance strategy, including ongoing compliance monitoring and reporting, undertaking investigations of complaints and reports of non-compliance with Local Jobs First commitments and undertaking compliance audits
  • work under guidance to apply professional judgement to plan, implement and monitor compliance audit work, ensuring projects meet scope, quality, time and other requirements
  • track project progress, manage reporting and support project administration, identify risks, support mitigation strategies and provide advice to accountable agencies on their Local Jobs First commitments.
  • use foundational capability in critical thinking and problem solving, use policies and guidance to resolve issues and contribute ideas

 The Team

Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory Compliance and Audits, this position forms a part of the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent Branch within the Industry, Trade and Investment Group. 

This role is within the Local Jobs First Commissioner's office. The Local Jobs First Act commenced in August 2018 enshrining the Victorian Industry Participation Policy (VIPP) the Major Projects Skills Guarantee (MPSG) and established the role of the Local Jobs First Commissioner. The Commissioner's role is to advocate on behalf of Victorian small and medium enterprises, as well as promoting the employment of apprentices, trainees and cadets on government projects. The Commissioner also oversees compliance with local content and job commitments entered as part of the contractual arrangements for project delivery.

The role works closely with the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent (IDCMT) Branch which is responsible for shaping and ensuring the delivery of the Victorian Government's industry development agenda. The branch develops policies and delivers programs that drive sustainable economic growth and workforce inclusion, leading to higher living standards for all Victorians. 

About You

You have strong project delivery capability to prioritise tasks, manage timelines and ensure measurable outcomes across projects. Your ability to use influence and persuasive communication to obtain information, provide timely advice and support decision making on emerging compliance issues, demonstrating resilience and flexibility as priorities shift, will be invaluable.
