The Role

The Economic Data Analyst will support the delivery and ongoing enhancement of the Victorian Skills Authority's (VSA) core economic models and wider data insights products. These models and insights products underpin workforce planning and training provisioning decisions across the Victorian government and provide comprehensive analysis of the skills and workforce needs across the Victorian economy.

Main accountabilities:

• Support the development, refinement and maintenance of key economic models and data products, providing data analysis, insights and preparation to refine and enhance existing models and analytical approaches.
• Apply comprehensive data manipulation using coding languages and software (R) to analyse and report on the labour market, Victoria's training system and skills data. 
• Source, query and extract underlying data from various providers, including government agencies and external vendors, including performing quality assurance of the data and preparation for use in models.
• Contribute to the delivery of analysis and reporting products that communicate insights about current and future skills requirements, ensuring content is concise, well-structured, and tailored to the needs of diverse audiences.

The Team

The position of Economic Data Analyst forms a part of the Analysis and Insights Branch within the Victorian Skills Authority.

The Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) provides evidence-based planning and solutions to meet current and future skills needs in Victoria. The Analysis and Insights Branch delivers innovative advice on skills needs, labour market intelligence and VET performance in Victoria.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

• Expertise in Data Preparation, Analysis & Evaluation: Experience preparing, cleansing, manipulating and evaluating the robustness of economic data as an input to economic models, data insights products or wider policy analysis. Proficiency preparing and analysing data in R is required.
• Conceptual and Analytical Ability: Demonstrated experience in analysing large complex datasets and drawing key insights, using a sound economic framework. Proven ability to apply conceptual and analytical skills to reason through problems.
• Research: Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research to inform the robustness of economic models, data products or wider policies. Proven capacity to critically evaluate and synthesise a wide variety of information sources
