Position Details

Manager, Higher Education Governance

  • Salary: $142,790 - $191,084 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed term role: until 2027
  • Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)

The Role

The Manager, Higher Education Governance is responsible for leading on the provision of expert advice on governance matters related to Victoria's public universities and other key public sector boards. This includes managing ministerial appointments, supporting recruitment of high quality, diverse candidates, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and reporting requirements, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

Main accountabilities:

  • Participates in strategic planning and contributes to strategic decision-making process
  • Identifies and responds to new and emerging strategic issues impacting on the operating environment
  • Purpose of communication may be to resolve complex issues through a process of consultation and negotiation 
  • Develops briefs on highly complex issues that provide options for decision within an organisation 

The Team

The position of Manager, Higher Education Governance forms a part of the Office of TAFE Coordination and Delivery within the Skills and TAFE group.

Skills and TAFE (ST) focuses on enabling Victorians to access the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to participate in today's workforce, prepare for future jobs, and achieve their educational aspirations. The Office of TAFE Coordination and Delivery (OTCD) incorporating the TAFE Strategy, Systems and Tertiary Governance branch and the TAFE Performance, Finance and Infrastructure branch, plays a system leadership and management role for the Victorian TAFE Network (VTN) across Victoria.

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • Influence and Persuasion: Implements complex strategies to build buy-in from key internal and external clients/stakeholders; Effectively negotiates with clients/stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes. 
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Works to find new ways to deliver outcomes. Recognises the merits of different options and acts accordingly. Builds commitment of others to adopt new strategies to deliver against outcomes.
