Position Details

Research Scientist

  • $88,955 - $100,930 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term to 30 June 2024 
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Ellinbank (flexibility may be available)

This position will report to Spatial Information Sciences in Agriculture Victoria Research and undertake research activities within the PastureSmarts Development and Commercialisation Project. The appointee will focus on the research and development of spatial data and data services that provide efficient delivery of pasture information to farmers via web-based mapping applications.  This will be achieved through innovative research and science excellence, supported by technical efficiency, business processes, technology adoption and knowledge managements.

This is a fast paced, high demand project and your extensive expertise will be immediately utilised. You will be part of a multidisciplinary project team that includes stakeholder engagement, database management, GIS and industry specialists. You will contribute to the design, implementation and continual improvement of spatial data that supports informative product delivery to the dairy industry. You will also be required to assist in reporting on the project both internally and to external stakeholders and prepare publications and other written reports.

The key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Contribute to the design, provision, documentation, and support of the agriculture industry web mapping and visualisation products.
  • Working closely with the team to specify, design, and implement changes to hardware and software as required to adapt to evolving projects requirements.
  • Contribute to day-to-day data creation, system management, and administration requirements.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and rectifying issues affecting spatial data systems and product performance.
  • Have impact on the Victorian and national agriculture industries and policies affecting the industries.
  • Promote and demonstrate DJPR Values and Behaviours and apply WH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.

The position of Research Scientist forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.

The Agriculture Victoria Research Branch represents DJPR's agricultural research and development function. The Agriculture Research Branch provides a discipline-based science and technology delivery function in the following areas: a) Genomics and Cellular Sciences; b) Microbial Sciences, Pests and Diseases; c) Plant Sciences; d) Plant Production Sciences; e) Animal Production Sciences; and f) Agriculture Resources Sciences.
