About the role:

The Senior Design Engineer provides in-house design engineering expertise within the Infrastructure and Assets Directorate, contributing to the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of Parks Victoria's infrastructure and asset programs.

Reporting to the Manager - Technical Services, the position delivers technical advice, design solutions, and assurance activities across the project lifecycle - from concept development and design review through to construction and close-out. The role ensures that design and engineering inputs meet relevant safety, environmental, and statutory requirements while achieving value-for-money and fit-for-purpose outcomes.

Working as part of a small multi-disciplinary team of technical specialists, the Senior Design Engineer collaborates closely with project managers, contractors, regulators, and other experts to resolve complex technical issues and support high-quality infrastructure delivery. The position also contributes to continuous improvement of design standards, systems, and processes, and supports capability-building across Parks Victoria's project delivery teams.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Extensive experience in civil, structural, or multi-disciplinary design engineering roles within infrastructure or asset management programs
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or an equivalent discipline, with eligibility for professional registration (Engineers Australia or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing design documentation, technical specifications, and assurance reports
  • Comprehensive understanding of design engineering principles, safety in design, and environmental and regulatory compliance in infrastructure delivery
