About the Role
As a Ranger based in Olinda, you'll combine hands-on horticultural and landscaping work with the broader responsibilities of managing and protecting Parks Victoria's estate.
Based at the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden, you'll contribute to horticultural programs and the maintenance of visitor infrastructure across the Dandenong Ranges Gardens. The gardens encompass eight diverse properties featuring exotic and indigenous species, including nationally significant botanic collections suited to cooler climates.
The properties include:
- National Rhododendron Gardens
- Alfred Nicholas Gardens
- Pirianda Garden
- George Tindale Garden
- RJ Hamer Arboretum
- Mount Dandenong Arboretum
- William Ricketts Sanctuary
- Old Olinda Golf Course
Alongside horticultural activities, you'll contribute to on-ground park management, including conservation, visitor services, infrastructure and asset maintenance, community engagement and other operational projects.
This is an opportunity to apply your practical horticultural and landscaping experience while helping protect and maintain significant gardens and providing positive experiences for visitors.
About the Team
Based from the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden in Olinda, you'll work as part of a team implementing horticultural programs and maintaining visitor infrastructure across the gardens.
You'll work collaboratively with colleagues and engage with Traditional Owners, community members, volunteers and park users while contributing to safe and effective on-ground management.
As part of the team, you'll:
- Deliver hands-on horticultural, landscaping and maintenance activities.
- Contribute to the maintenance of visitor infrastructure and park assets.
- Work safely and responsibly while identifying and managing operational risks.
- Engage positively with visitors, volunteers and community members.
- Share your knowledge and work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes.
- Use your judgement and initiative to help improve service and project delivery.
We're Looking for Someone With:
- Horticultural and/or landscaping qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience delivering routine on-ground horticultural and/or landscaping projects under general supervision and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a safe, respectful and inclusive team environment.
- The ability to work constructively with members of the public, volunteer groups and park users when delivering on-ground services and projects.
- The ability to represent Parks Victoria positively in interactions with visitors, stakeholders and the community.
- Strong reliability, accountability and a commitment to delivering quality work.
- A current Victorian Driver's Licence.
