About the role

The primary purpose of the position is to lead the enhancement of Parks Victoria's practices for regulatory approvals for asset and infrastructure delivery. Based on having extensive knowledge of regulatory approvals through the lens of project and program delivery on public land, the role will focus on:

  • leading the progression of a regulatory approvals framework that supports capability building across the organisation to strengthen statutory planning expertise.
  • developing processes, procedures, decision frameworks and other tools to support the organisation comply with planning and environment regulatory approvals.
  • providing leadership and authoritative advice to ensure relevant legislation, policies and procedures and best management practices have been taken into consideration during program and project planning, such as guiding the development of project approvals strategies.
  • foster productive relationships with internal teams, Traditional Owners, local government authorities, and state agencies to identify best practice processes and practical solutions.
  • working with specialists within Parks Victoria and externally (where engaged) to provide strategic guidance in relation to the delivery of priority projects for Parks Victoria.
  • Broadly, the role provides internal leadership with a focus on improving practices around due diligence, decision-making efficiency and internal acumen for regulatory approvals.

About the Team

The Strategy, Planning and Programs Division comprises key centres of expertise that support the place-based management and operations in parks, reserves, and designated local ports and waterways within Parks Victoria's diverse estate.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in statutory land use planning, regulatory compliance, or public land management in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental management, planning, public land management, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, professional ethics, and innovative problem-solving in complex planning scenarios.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement systems, processes, and frameworks to support strategic planning and operational performance.
  • Proficiency in applying legislation, regulations, and organisational policies to achieve outcomes.
