The Role

The Senior Project Officer plays a key role in delivering complex projects and initiatives within the TAFE Strategy, Systems and Tertiary Governance branch. Reporting to the Manager, Delivery, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, while managing risks and dependencies. You will provide high-level analysis and advice to inform decision-making, develop project documentation including plans, reports and briefs, and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings a strategic mindset, strong organisational and communication skills, and proven experience managing complex projects, driving results, and building collaborative partnerships in a dynamic government environment.

Main Accountabilities

  • Develop project briefs consistent with business plan direction
  • Develop briefs on complex issues that provide options for consideration and decision-making
  • Provide leadership in adapting and applying concepts to operational matters within the work area
  • Manage cross-functional delivery within a defined service
  • Negotiate with stakeholders and peers to achieve cooperation and meet project timelines

The Team

This position sits within the TAFE Strategy, Systems and Tertiary Governance branch, part of the Skills and TAFE Group.

The branch provides system leadership for the Victorian TAFE Network, driving strategic reform, innovation and governance to improve outcomes for students, industry and communities. It works closely with TAFEs, universities and industry to deliver a responsive, high-quality vocational education and training system aligned to government priorities.

About You

You bring strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to identify shared priorities and build effective partnerships across diverse groups. You have demonstrated experience delivering projects by translating strategy into practical outcomes, supported by strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex challenges and deliver results. As well as:

• Demonstrated understanding of Implementation and planning of key projects and initiatives.
• Experience in the implementation of key programs and initiatives within a TAFE institute or TAFE network.
