Senior Project Officer
The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. We are committed to getting more people fishing by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to try fishing; to making it safer, cheaper and easier for the boating and fishing communities to get out on the water; and to making local seafood more readily available for everyone to enjoy.
Our function is to ensure that the Government, Victorian fishing sector and general community obtain the benefits of careful management to ensure demand can be sustainably supported into the future. This is achieved by matching demand to fish stocking and infrastructure, while providing up to date information on resource condition and supporting regulatory requirements.

Position Details
Senior Project Officer
- Salary: $106,534 - $128,897 (Plus Superannuation)
- Fixed term 24 months
- Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
- Usual work location: 1 Spring Street Melbourne VIC (flexibility may be available)
The Role
The Senior Project Officer is part of a team leading the delivery of boating infrastructure projects across Victoria, including boat ramp upgrades, that are funded through the Better Boating Fund with the relevant asset manager.
The position will play a key role in the planning phase for the projects including progressing concept and detailed designs and securing planning permits and other approvals to generate tender-ready proposals for a set of projects. They will then collaborate with and assist asset managers (for example Councils, Committees of management, water authorities) through the tendering and construction phase of the projects. Through all phases of relevant projects, the senior Project officer will collaborate with relevant asset managers and other stakeholders to enable efficient and effective delivery of the projects.
The Senior Project Officer will work closely with colleagues within the boating team and across the VFA and with external stakeholders operating within the boating industry including personnel from relevant Victorian Government departments and agencies, Local Government, Committees of Management, boating facility users and interested community groups.
The Team
The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.
The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.
About you
- Produces clear project plans where objectives are well defined and steps for achieving them are clearly specified
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience associated with the planning, approvals and delivery of boating infrastructure projects or similar relevant projects
- Establishes and maintains relationships with people at all levels
- Prepares plans, reports, briefs, presentations and other communications regarding complex matters in clear and concise ways
- Proactive and self-starting
- Influences and negotiates successful outcomes
