- Salary: $81,496 - $98,955 (Plus Superannuation)
- Fixed term role: 12 months
- Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)

The Role
The role of the Technical Officer (Native Fish Production) provides technical, administrative, and operational support to the department's recreational fish production and stocking program.
Main accountabilities:
- Assist in and prepare, update and monitor, risk plans, OH&S plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contract documentation ensuring all departmental polices, processes and guidelines are followed.
- In accordance with Safe Work Procedures (SWP's), participate and assist in a range of fish production tasks such as stocking fish, stakeholder engagement and fish husbandry tasks.
- Assist in the collation and analysis of the sites relevant data. Prepare and present data with recommendations by other staff and management.
- Provide ongoing feedback regarding all aspects of fish production and fish movement including but not limited to animal welfare, environmental conditions, disease monitoring and plant, machinery, and equipment performance to ensure production and stocking targets are met.
The Team
The position of Technical Officer forms a part of the Fisheries Management and Boating branch within the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that insures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA Functions to ensure that the government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Sector Experience: Demonstrated expertise and/or experience of working within the agriculture or aquaculture sector. Knowledge of the day to day running of a fish farm or other farm including feeding, grading, breeding, fish health, fish stocking and general husbandry of livestock/fish.
- Technical Skills: Experience in data analytics and management; Detail focused and identifies gaps in information; Looks for logical sequences of information and can accurately present data to staff, stakeholders, and management.
- Communication Skills: Well-developed written and verbal communication to convey ideas and information in a concise format; Understands the target audience and the objectives of the communication; Confidently conveys ideas and information in a clear and interesting way.
