Senior Eonomist/Analyst
- Salary: $113,022 - $136,747 (Plus Superannuation)
- Ongoing
- Usual hours of work: Full-time (flexibility may be available)
- Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (flexibility may be available)
The Role
The Senior Economist/Analyst will lead economic and statistical analysis to inform big picture policy reform opportunities. They will develop clear and compelling evidence-based recommendations for a broad range of policy issues affecting Victorian communities and businesses.
The Senior Economist/Analyst role has the following accountabilities:

Undertake economic and statistical analysis to provide expert advice on a range of policy issues.

Develop fit-for-purpose modelling and data outputs within tight timeframes, meeting user specifications and expectations.

Clearly communicate the process, results, and policy implications of modelling or data analysis to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The Team
The position of Senior Economist/Analyst forms a part of the Economic Policy, Programs and Services group in the Data and Analytics branch.
The Economic Policy, Programs and Services group brings together specialist skills in economics, modelling, data and evaluation to support all groups across the department to deliver on their priorities.
Data and Analytics works with diverse clients across DJSIR by providing robust and timely quantitative analysis as well as improving quantitative capabilities to support policy priorities, such as housing affordability, liveability and jobs growth.
About You

Conceptual and analytical ability: Demonstrated expertise in conceptual thinking and sound analytical approaches to support decision making in the work area. Analyses issues from different perspectives and draws sound inferences from information available. Identifies patterns and relationships in complex systems and communicate them in clear ways.

Statistical analysis: Demonstrated technical expertise in data manipulation and statistical analysis. Demonstrated understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of competing analytical approaches. Can apply theoretical and statistical models to real world data and policy problems. Experience in programming using specialist software such as Stata, R, Python or equivalent is required.

Policy analysis: Demonstrated experience in analysing government policy using conceptual frameworks. Identifies first and second-best solutions, and understands the impact of solutions on different groups of stakeholders. Conveys specialist concepts to a broad range of audiences, including people with little technical knowledge, to a high standard verbally and in written form.
