Position Details
Policy Officer
- Salary: $97,955 - $111,142 (Plus Superannuation)
- Fixed term role: for 2 years
- Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
- Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne CBD (flexibility may be available)
The Role
The Policy Officer is responsible for working across the Industry, Construction and Manufacturing team, branch and the broader department to support the design of industry development policy and strategies to leverage internal and external opportunities to strengthen industry and sector development.
The position sits within the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent branch and assists to develop high level industry wide policies and strategies across a range of key sectors.
Main accountabilities:
- Advice and analysis contributes to policy formulation
- Prepares reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues that impact at program or organisational level
- Researches and develops recommendations in a specific field of expertise
- Contributes to strategic policy development within a specific field of expertise
The Team
The position of Policy Officer forms a part of the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent branch within the Industry, Trade & Investment group.
The Branch is responsible for shaping and ensuring the delivery of the Victorian Government's industry development agenda. The branch develops policies and delivers programs that drive sustainable economic growth and workforce inclusion, leading to higher living standards for all Victorians. The branch does this by:
- using deep engagement and insights to lead the development and delivery of industry policies for Victoria
- creating opportunities for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and employees, including apprentices, trainees and cadets, to participate in government projects
- supporting the growth of strategic industry sectors, the transition of evolving sectors, and enhanced productivity
- simplifying business operations by supporting councils to reduce regulatory processes
- equipping businesses with the necessary skills for growth and enabling Victorians to secure higher-paid jobs.
About You
The successful candidate will have strong demonstrated policy skills with the ability to work in a collaborative and partnership style within a highly complex, multi-stakeholder environment. You will have a good understanding of government direction and levers within an industry policy setting.
