  • Salary: $100,894 - $114,476 (Plus superannuation)

The Role

As an Adviser, Data Analysis and Insights, you will have demonstrated success in developing strategic advice on complex and cross-cutting socio-economic issues; be comfortable working on new and diverse issues with uncertain information; strong analytical and conceptual skills; well-developed communication and stakeholder management skills; and proven experience in preparing, managing, and analysing economic data and evidence.

This role may involve:

  • Counselling and supporting stakeholders to help them navigate challenges and make choices, rather than dictating specific actions.
  • Developing relationships with their stakeholders, based on trust and understanding of their individual needs.
  • Analyzing situations, identifying potential solutions, and helping stakeholders develop strategies for achieving the goals.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Undertakes technical data analysis and modelling and prepares reports
  • Manages projects, usually under limited direction
  • Provides professional scientific, technical or specialist advice based on field of expertise
  • Contributes expertise to a team working on complex projects
  • Conveys specialist concepts and policies to clients, staff and stakeholders
  • Researches and applies advanced theoretical knowledge in a specialised field to operational problem solving

The Team

The position of Adviser, Data Analysis and Insights will work within Place Based Strategy, Insights and Coordination Branch, which sits within Regional Development Victoria Group.

Regional Development Victoria Group works with businesses, communities and across government to deliver economic growth, create jobs, build resilience, and support economic recovery in our regions. We have a strong role in activating networks; building partnerships; realising outcomes that boost local economic and community resilience; and bringing the lived experience of communities into government decision making. In delivering our portfolio priorities, we work closely with parts of government given the many synergies and linkages with other priorities across government.

The Place Based Strategy, Insights and Coordination Branch plays a key role in leading place-based policy and insights both within DJSIR and across the VPS. The branch delivers the evidence base and policy platform to influence regional economic outcomes across government and support high quality program delivery in partnership with Regional Development Victoria (RDV) and other groups and departments.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Data Literacy: Ability to utilise advanced excel formulas, pivot tables and generation of data charts is required. 
  • Systems Thinking: Assesses situations and identifies the best systems tools for analysing, understanding the system and addressing problems; Can apply system archetypes to identify common dynamics that appear in different situations.
  • Communicate with Impact: Prepares and delivers logical and succinct presentations; Uses clear and concise language; Uses media appropriate to the audience and presents information to develop the understanding of the topic. 
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement and ways to innovate; Creates space for learning and innovation by seeking for input and feedback from others. 
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Resolves issues through deep understanding/interpretation of existing guidelines. Where guidelines aren't available, analyses ideas available and takes action including in consultation with others to resolve problems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Takes steps to add value for the client or stakeholder; Links people with other areas as appropriate; Monitors client and stakeholder satisfaction; Constructively deals with stakeholder issues.
