Senior Policy Officer

  • Salary: 113,022 – $136,747 (plus superannuation)
  • Fixed term until 31 December 2028
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)

The Role

We're looking for a strategic and collaborative Senior Policy Officer with demonstrated experience in policy development, strong analytical capabilities, and a sound understanding of government processes. The ideal candidate can translate complex issues into clear, evidence-based advice and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Main accountabilities:

  1. Formulates policy options and advice 
  2. Applies complex concepts to policy development or research 
  3. Develops briefs on highly complex issues that provide options for discussion and consideration and will contribute to the development of a set of final options for decision
  4. Innovative thinking and analysis influences developments within area of responsibility

The Team

The position of Senior Policy Officer forms part of the Policy and Strategy Branch within the Skills and TAFE Group.

The Policy and Strategy Branch leads system-wide and strategic policy settings for Victoria's vocational education and training system. The branch oversees VET system performance and funding, leads Cabinet and budget processes, and works with the Commonwealth, states and territories and other stakeholders to drive national tertiary education reform.

  • You have strong policy design and development skills and can clearly articulate policy options, objectives and impacts.
  • You understand how policy interacts with broader systems, community needs and government priorities

  • You apply sound project governance and delivery practices to manage risk and support successful outcomes.
