Are you an exceptional communicator with strong writing skills and extensive end-to-end digital channel management expertise?
We are looking for a Principal Adviser to join our Digital and Communications Unit at the Victorian Skills Authority.
The role
Reporting to the Manager, Digital and Communications and working in a collaborative and engaging team, the Principal Adviser will:
- support the wider VSA brand and communications strategy, including content for VSA digital and print channels
- support the planning, implementation and evaluation of best practice, effective strategic communications activities
- manage VSA's digital channels including the VSA and Victorian Skills Gateway websites and VSA social media channels
- manage the end-to-end re-development of our Victorian Skills Gateway website including the coursefinder
- work collaboratively across the unit, with executives and more broadly across the VSA and Victorian Government to provide support with strategic communications needs.
With team members based in Ballarat, the role requires regular presence at the Ballarat GovHub office, as well as maintaining a presence in the VSA's Melbourne-based offices.
The team
The role is part of the Services Branch, which comprises of 4 units - Community Engagement, Advisory Board Advice and Support, Digital and Communications, and Major Events.
It is responsible for delivering a range of online, telephone and in-person services for learners seeking to undertake training to enhance their skills and career prospects, through Skills and Jobs Centres and the TAFE and Training Line. The branch also oversees the VSA's digital and strategic communications functions; the VSA's Advisory Board, which provides quality and timely advice to the VSA and the Minister for Skills and TAFE on the vocational education sector and skills shortages in Victoria; and awards programs including the annual Victorian Training Awards and the Victorian Learn Local Awards.
The Digital and Communications Unit is responsible for leading the brand and communications strategy for the VSA and managing both internal and external communications and messaging. It is also responsible for the VSA's websites and other online resources, and ensuring messaging aligns to the priorities of the VSA and Victorian Government. The unit also oversees the design and print requirements across the VSA and supports key events and promotional activities.
About you
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Specialist/technical expertise: Extensive experience in both strategic communications and digital channel management.
- Written communication expertise: Demonstrated high-level expertise in writing content for different channels and audiences - using clear, concise and grammatically correct language - with exceptional attention to detail. Editing and proofreading skills with an understanding of writing style and accessibility standards.
- Project management: Outstanding end-to-end project management skills, essential to manage the re-development of the Victorian Skills Gateway, as well as other strategic communications and digital channel initiatives. Proven ability to plan and prioritise a broad range of competing tasks and priorities, be accountable for delivery, direct a small team, and work independently with resilience and flexibility as required.
- Customer focus: Outstanding customer and stakeholder engagement and management skills.
- Innovation and continuous improvement: Proven ability to use initiative and conceptualise contemporary digital and communications initiatives, implementing them with success. Expertise in analysing data and evaluating, and ensuring continual improvement in digital and communications practices.
- Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in digital communications is desirable. Experience in communications, journalism, professional writing or a related field is essential, as is experience in writing and producing compelling content, and managing online information architecture/digital channels.
