Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given priority consideration for this role.

The Role

The Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) is reimagining how we do business, actively championing First Peoples' self-determination in both our strategic decisions and day-to-day operations.  You will help shape a workplace where First Peoples perspectives and practices are valued, understood and embedded in everything we do.

An exciting opportunity exists to undertake the role of Senior Project Officer within the Aboriginal Economic Development branch in the Economic Policy, Programs and Services Group at DJSIR.

Are you?

  • Seeking an opportunity to contribute to the growth of Aboriginal economic development?
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated?
  • Looking for a challenge, variety and flexibility?

The position will play a crucial role in actively driving a continuous improvement approach to program management and delivery, finance and governance processes, including reporting tools, across the branch to achieve high-quality outcomes.

The position reports to the Director and supports the continuous improvement and governance of our program delivery, design that strengthen economic opportunities for Aboriginal people across Victoria. This role also contributes to our department's commitment to meaningful change through First Peoples' self-determination and leadership.

The Team

The Aboriginal Economic Development (AED) branch leads work across the department to support Aboriginal self-determination through employment and economic development. It oversees coordination and engagement with DJSIR's Aboriginal Partnership entity, the Yuma Yirramboi Council, and leads implementation of Yuma Yirramboi (Invest for Tomorrow) – the State's shared vision with Victorian Aboriginal communities to achieve economic parity between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Victorians within a generation.

About You

You will have high-level project management discipline, with experience delivering projects, including design and implementation and the ability to manage program performance against objectives and targets. Experience in Aboriginal economic development and knowledge of Salesforce (GEMS) would be preferred.

Use your excellent communication ability to develop high-quality outputs such as concise and engaging PowerPoint decks, reports, submissions and briefings.

Further Information

For a confidential discussion, please contact Camm Myrtle, Director, Aboriginal Economic Development, on camm.myrtle@ecodev.vic.gov.au or 0476 904 839.

The Department is committed to creating and maintaining a child safe organisation. We have zero tolerance of child abuse and are committed to taking the necessary steps to protect children from harm by adopting a preventative, proactive and participatory approach to child safety in accordance with the Child Safe Standards.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Records Check prior to commencing employment with the Department. For further information on the position, please refer to the attached position description.

For the purpose of employment in Aboriginal Designated or Aboriginal Prioritised positions within the Victorian public sector, candidates will be asked to provide Confirmation of Aboriginality. This can be confirmed by a Confirmation of Aboriginality form signed by an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and affixed with the common seal of that organisation. Recognising that access to formal Confirmation of Aboriginality documents can occasionally be problematic, an alternative process can be discussed by emailing firstpeoples.workforce@ecodev.vic.gov.au.
