Position Details

- 12 month Fixed Term role located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD.
About the role
Your primary role of Legal Counsel is to manage the legal risk of the organisation. You will work closely and proactively partner with the Parks Victoria divsions to provide strategic legal advice. The position provides a wide range of generalist legal services either directly or by engaging external law firms as appropriate.
In addition to the provision of advice, you will review and prepare new leases, licences and commercial contracts. You will also instruct external lawyers on the preparation of commercial agreements, and will assist in enhancing the capabilities and competencies of Parks Victora employees to manage the organisation's legal risk including the provision of training on legal matters and governance issues as required.
About the Team
The Legal Risk and Compliance Division provides support for legal, statutory compliance, governance and risk functions for Parks Victoria. It provides the tools and frameworks to ensure efficient and effective governance processs, including a risk management framework that can assist management to make informed decisions within an acceptable risk profile.
We're looking for someone with:
- A tertiary qualification in law is essential as well as being admitted to practice law in Victoria.
- Extensive post admission experience is highly desirable.
- An exposure to the following areas is highly desirable: general contracting, leasing, construction law and statutory interpretation.
- Demonstrated high-level judgement as well as experience in analytical problem solving and providing support for decision making.
