About the branch

The Melbourne Division is responsible for the service delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Divisional resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for Melbourne communities. Service delivery is managed and delivered within the demands of the Divisional Action Plan and in partnership with community and government agencies.

Melbourne Division consists of a diverse range of parks and reserves.  Staff working within the Division are responsible for providing efficient and effective implementation of a broad range of often complex park management functions including natural, cultural and built asset management, visitor management and services, stakeholder management, park planning and emergency response.

About the role

As the Manager Ports and Waterways Engineering, you will provide specialist technical advice and leadership to Parks Victoria staff and external stakeholders on maritime infrastructure and coastal engineering. You will lead the whole of life approach to managing a $250 million + maritime infrastructure estate.

Your responsibilities will include management of all port asset information, development of the 10-year capital major works program, development of the minor works program and the development and delivery of the technical investigations program of all maritime assets to ensure they are fit for purpose, safe and mitigate risk to the organisation and visitors. The role will provide strategic asset planning and technical advice on the status of the maritime asset estate to the Marine and Maritime Regional Management Team and provides design support, prepares project briefs, reports and data for Corporate reporting, funding submissions to Government, support delivery of regional and state-wide projects and planning of new assets.

To be successful for this role you need:

  • Engineering qualifications are mandatory with experience sufficient to be admitted into the corporate ‘membership' status of the Institute of Engineers, Australia.
  • Knowledge and experience with planning processes and permits, Environmental Effects Statements, Heritage values and listings, Building and Works Permits and legislation is desirable.
