About the role and your responsibilities:  

As the Manager Conservation Programs, you will lead a team to deliver the functions of conservation programs unit. You will take a lead and support the management of complex statewide threat management projects, strategic plans and assessments in collaboration with other units in the division and regional leads. You will liaise with the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and other government agencies (including Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions) at senior levels to develop and contribute to environmental programs, policy, operational policy for threat management including standard operating procedures and codes of practice, funding needs, program development and reporting. You will be a key lead in engaging with external conservation stakeholders regarding statewide threat management programs. As part of your role, you will lead in coordination of the statewide Environment, Land and Water program through business planning and performance reporting.

We're looking for someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental science, natural resource management or a similar discipline
  • Experience in managing environmental programs including budgets, governance and reporting
  • Knowledge of Victorian biodiversity and ecology and an understanding of threatening processes and effective management techniques
  • A current employee Working with Children Check before commencing employment with us

About the branch:

The Environment and Science Division provides scientific and technical advice, and strategic guidance on environmental and nature conservation matters across Parks Victoria. The Division brings together strategy, planning, science, programming, monitoring and evaluation for Park Victoria with a focus on delivery of frameworks, standards and advice.

The Division comprises the following six functional units - the Evaluation, Information and Social Sciences, Conservation Planning, Biodiversity Science, Environmental Research Partnerships and Programs, Conservation Programs and Marine and Coastal Science and Programs.

This position is one of six unit managers in the Environment and Science Division and leads the Conservation Programs unit. The primary function of this unit is to lead development and delivery of statewide conservation and threat management programs and operational policy. It has a primary function to provide technical support and coordination to critical conservation programs.
