About the role

The primary focus of your position is to support the protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage (ACH) values on Parks Victoria managed land in the North Region. You will work with the Regional Aboriginal Heritage Coordinator to support regional and district staff to implement Parks Victoria's policies and procedures for protecting ACH, in line with the organisation's Managing Country Together principles and legislative requirements and embed ACH values into operational planning and priority-setting.

You will work closely with Traditional Owners and other land management partners to identify appropriate measures to protect Aboriginal heritage values on the parks estate and support the implementation of on-ground partnership projects that improve the knowledge, security and condition of ACH values. The position will also have a key role in supporting North Region staff to improve their understanding and capacity in ACH protection.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Sound understanding of the identification and protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage values
  • Working knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation, governance and policies in Victoria is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with Traditional Owners
  • Demonstrated experience in providing expert and technical advice and support
