About ESV

Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is the leading Victorian Government Statutory Authority responsible for the safety and technical regulation of electricity, gas and pipelines for all Victorians. Within the Gas and Pipeline Safety and Technical Regulation division, an opportunity has evolved for a self-motivated Gas Safety Officer to ensure existing and new gas installations, as well as new and second-hand gas appliances, meet agreed safety criteria and comply with appropriate standards.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, Gas Inspectorate, the position of Gas Safety Officer requires a professional performer, with sound working knowledge of the legislation, regulations and Australian Standards.  

Key responsibilities include

  • Assessing and accepting gas installations against the prescribed standards
  • Undertaking audits and inspections of complex gas installations and Type B appliances across Victoria to ensure compliance with gas safety regulations and technical standards.
  • Conducting point of sale audits of Type A Appliances to ensure only certified appliances are offered for sale.
  • Attending gas related incident sites, securing incident scene(s) and if required carry out initial investigations, gathering all necessary information and thoroughly photographing the area for further investigation. 
  • Delivering presentations to gasfitters, gas retailers, contractors, distribution businesses, LP Gas companies, service clubs, event organizers, end users, councils and other authorities and groups as required. This would require you to liaise closely with Registered Training Organisations.

To be considered for this role

The ideal candidate will have a current gasfitting registration, along with extensive technical experience with gas installations and gas appliances. Type B gas appliance accreditation is desirable. Furthermore, you will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to manage expectations and negotiate effective outcomes.
