Position Details

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – Ambulance Victoria Retired and Former Employee Peer Support Program (trial 12 months)

                        (Restricted to retired or former AV employees)


The opportunity exists for a Retired or Former Employee of Ambulance Victoria anywhere in Victoria to submit an application for a position as a Volunteer Peer Support member within this new program.


Appointment will be for a trial period of 12 months from the time of commencement and will support the provision of peer response for Retired and Former Employees of Ambulance Victoria and their immediate families.


The trial program will consist of one volunteer Peer Support Coordinator and three volunteer Peer Support members.  


After evaluation of the program, the opportunity may exist to extend the Peer Support services to Ambulance Victoria staff during times of high demand.


In this role you will

  • Provide support and referral for retired and former AV employees who are experiencing stressful situations.
  • Undertake the role on a voluntary basis
  • Contact retired or former employees via telephone or face to face – following direction from the coordinator
  • Provide empathetic support to retired or former AV employees and referral as needed
  • In accordance with VACU guidelines and with AV approval, attend VACU clinical supervision sessions
  • Undertake Peer Support training provided by Ambulance Victoria.
  • The volunteer Peer Support coordinator will work under the guidance of the AV Peer Support coordinator.

Pre-requisites for the role

  • Prior employment with Ambulance Victoria with an interest in welfare and support of peers.
  • Empathy, confidentiality and respect
  • Scanned certified copies of the following documents before your application is assessed
    • Driving History Report (including statement of demerit points and convictions for each state/territory or country you have resided in the last 5 years)
    • Front and back copy of your driver's license
    • Proof of previous employment with AV
    • Required to possess a suitable personal vehicle to be utilised for visits where fuel will be reimbursed for Peer Support authorised visits

Additional Preferred requirements for the Volunteer Peer Support Coordinator

  • Previous experience in the supervision of staff
  • Previous experience in maintaining databases
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Outlook systems

The selection process will also involve an interview and reference checks and if successful, AV will be in contact to arrange completion of the following prior to making an offer to commence;

  • National Police Check
  • Working With Children Check
  • Medical Clearance from a General Health Practitioner
  • Alcohol & Other Drug testing
  • Successful completion of Psychological Screening, aligned to our Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy
