Position Details

Ambulance Victoria's mission is to improve the health of our community by delivering innovative, high quality ambulance services and providing exceptional clinical care. The leading edge clinical practice and lifesaving work of Ambulance Victoria's paramedics and volunteers underpins this mission.

The organisation has been undergoing an exciting transformation since the release of Victoria's Ambulance Action Plan: Improving Services, Saving Lives. This report has been a key input into the organisation's Corporate Plan, which is designed to improve ambulance response to the Victorian community and the health, wellbeing and capability of staff. To support the delivery of outcomes identified in the Corporate Plan, and as part of the ongoing reform agenda to improve the care we provide to the community and the way we support our people, the design of a new organisational structure for our Operations areas is underway, with the creation of four senior leadership positions, including the Director, Operational Improvement, all reporting to the Chief Operations Officer.

About the role

The Director, Operational Improvement will lead and direct the management of AV-wide efforts to improve performance and quality of service delivery. Responsible for identifying opportunities for operational improvements in the dispatch grids, logistics, technology and systems, the Director will be responsible for developing best operational practices and driving operational excellence to ensure more efficient and effective service delivery across the organisation. Overseeing the operational project team, the Director also provides leadership to operational programs of work.

About you

The successful candidate will possess extensive management experience, including strategy development, process improvement and organisational planning, in a complex organisation with diverse business requirements. Significant experience in a senior project/program management capacity, including an awareness of issues relating to delivering projects in a government environment, is also key.

Other qualities enabling success in this role include; the ability to build and maintain effective communication and consultation mechanisms with a range of stakeholders and the wider community; strong leadership credentials – including the ability to motivate a large (and partly voluntary) workforce and drive strategic organisational change; the strategic and visionary skills to position Ambulance Victoria for future growth along with operational and technological advances; and the skills to deliver services consistent with agreed service agreements and within set budgets.
