About the branch

The position sits within the Park Planning and Policy Directorate, which provides park planning and land management policy advice aligned with the strategic directions of Parks Victoria and other Victorian Government Departments. Reporting to the Senior Manager Strategic Initiatives, the position supports the delivery of projects that have been funded through Regional Development Victoria's Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund for the benefit of Parks Victoria and the Victoria Government.

About the role and your responsibilities:  

As the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator, you will play a critical role in developing and influencing the relationships of internal and external stakeholders and partnerships, and the decisions required to operationalise project development and delivery. This role allows you to critically scope and manage complex and significant projects, including establishing their governance and framework, preparing agreements / contracts and writing milestone progress reports for funding bodies and senior management.

In consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders, you will assess the benefits and impacts of proposed programs and projects. These projects may be conceptual and require working well with other teams to ensure its success. You will support the Directorate in providing programming and reporting input across Branch activities into corporate and business planning, budget development and divisional action planning.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in park management, recreation, tourism, urban planning, or natural resource management or similar discipline is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing project plans, project briefs, assessing tenders and managing consultants and contractors to maximise outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the interpretation and implementation of legislation, regulations, guidelines, policies and practices preferably within a government organisation.
