Position Details

The Investigator (Building) provides an important service to the Victorian community conducting investigations into breaches of building legislation, regulations and professional standards. This involves conducting interviews, preparing reports and detailed briefs of evidence, participating in court proceedings, and providing advice and information to the building industry.

This position is well suited to an Investigator who has a strong background in conducting complex regulatory or enforcement investigations. 

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience in a compliance or regulatory environment undertaking complex investigations, preparing reports and/or briefs of evidence with the ability to undertake analysis and reporting of data.
  • The ability to build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders, being responsive to their needs and expectations.
  • Conceptual problem-solving skills and ability to analyse information and make sound decisions.
  • Proven communication skills, both written and oral and interpersonal skills, demonstrated in the undertaking of investigations, analysing information, pursuing lines of inquiry, assessing evidence and preparing reports.

Specialist Expertise

Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or demonstrated experience in conducting investigations is essential.

Position Specific Requirements

  • This position has a requirement to travel and work temporarily at locations remote from the principal place of work
  • This position requires an ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2006 and other relevant legislation
  • The successful candidate will possess a high level of personal integrity and credibility
  • The successful candidate must hold a current drivers licence.

Salary Details

Base salary in the Grade 5.1 range of $95,275 - $105,275 per annum (plus 9.5% super), will be negotiated with the successful candidate, depending on skills and experience.
