About us:

The Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) provides risk advice and insurance services for the Victorian Government. We work with our clients to improve the quality of life for the Victorian community.

We advise and insure more than 4300 clients. These include Victorian Government departments, statutory authorities and agencies, as well as hospitals, tertiary institutions, health centres, community service organisations, national parks, museums and cemetery trusts. We also cover particular infrastructure such as state roads, rail and bridges.

About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Claims within the Service Delivery Division the Senior Claims Specialist is responsible for managing a discrete portfolio of claims that delivers client focused recovery solutions that restore confidence and build a more resilient Victoria.

The successful candidate will be required to manage a small portfolio of complex Property, Construction Risk and Cyber losses.  It is expected the position will play a key role in the management of the claims response to a major weather related catastrophe or any other individual catastrophic loss.

About you:

  • You have a proven record in a claims management role, especially in the handling of the more technically complex matters including litigation, construction risk or catastrophe related property losses.
  • You have a proven track record in the management of property claims service providers such as Loss Adjustors and Forensic Accountants
  • You are a seasoned professional with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, proven client relationship management experience and the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience to positively lead a team, influence outcomes and re-engineer business processes to ensure optimal performance.
  • A clearly demonstrated depth of knowledge and experience in risk and insurance claims management, and the interaction with actuarial and audit procedures.
  • You hold a tertiary qualification in, Insurance, Business, Commerce, Finance, Law or relevant discipline (highly desirable)
