Position Details

The Mental Health Services Division (MHSD) of South West Healthcare provides a recovery focussed, family oriented mental health service using innovative approaches to community based and client centred service delivery. Working closely with the families and carers of consumers, the Division provides extensive services across all age groups and embraces diversity in south west Victoria.

The South Western Region of Victoria serviced by MHSD covers approximately 26,000 square kilometres, with a population exceeding 110,000. The region is characterised by a major population centre in the City of Warrnambool, larger provincial centres, and numerous smaller townships. Warrnambool is a vibrant, growing coastal regional centre, located 262 kilometres from Melbourne, a popular choice for those opting for a ‘seachange' in life.

An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced professional to join our Mental Health Service in the role of Senior Mental Health Nurse.  This is a full time role, however part time applications will be considered for this permanent position for the right candidate.

Reporting to the Director, Mental Health Services (or delegated Deputy) the primary focus of this pivotal role is mental health nurse education, training and development across the service. The role will also provide professional supervision and support to mental health nurses to facilitate effective delivery of quality clinical services and increased knowledge and skills within the Mental Health Division.

The successful candidate will have extensive skills and experience in a variety of mental health settings, a thorough understanding of recovery principles and practices, and proven ability to work in a team based multi-disciplinary environment. Demonstrated capacity in providing leadership and education within mental health, the ability to coordinate development programs and experience in providing clinical supervision are required.

Registration in the Register of Nurses of the NMBA, together with a minimum post graduate diploma qualification in psychiatric/mental health nursing or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program is essential. Post graduate qualifications in Advanced Nursing and workplace training and assessment qualifications are also desirable.
