Position Details

South West Healthcare invites applications from experienced professionals to plan, develop, deliver and run the Mental Health and Police (MHaP) Response Initiative in conjunction with Victoria Police and other key stakeholders.

The role of the MHaP Lead Clinician is to work collaboratively with Police and other Emergency Services, to fulfill the requirements of the MHaP Response Initiative Implementation Plan.

Warrnambool Police and the Warrnambool Adult Mental Health Service will roster on a staff member at the same shift time (13:00 – 21:30). These two experienced responders will provide a dual secondary response to incidents in the community involving people who are experiencing mental health crisis. The dual response of Police and Mental Health Clinician will aim to reduce the potential risk of behavioural escalation and provide a more rapid and effective outcome for the individual with mental health issues.

A reduction in ED presentations and Police transfers to Mental Health Services are two aims of this initiative in an early intervention framework.  The position forms part of the Mental Health Access Team based in Warrnambool and will also involve MH Triage/Intake work.
