Position Details

The Mental Health Services Division (MHSD) of South West Healthcare has an established reputation for providing innovative approaches to community based and client centred service delivery. The Division is also well known for its model of care based on working closely with the families and carers of consumers, within a recovery framework, and provides extensive services across all age groups.

The South Western Region of Victoria serviced by MHSD covers approximately 26,000 square kilometres, with a population exceeding 110,000. The region is characterised by a major population centre in the City of Warrnambool, larger provincial centres, and numerous smaller townships. A large part of the region is rural and sustains a mixture of farming activities.

Warrnambool is a vibrant, growing coastal regional centre, located 262 kilometres from Melbourne, a popular choice for those opting for a ‘sea change' in life.

Working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams and other Consultant Psychiatrists, the successful candidate will be based in in Warrnambool but may be required to visit regional centres.  This role will provide clinical leadership for the team they work within and further develop evidence based clinical standards and practices.

The Mental Health Service provides recovery focussed care and has teams based in Warrnambool, Camperdown, Hamilton and Portland. A 15 bed acute inpatient service is located in Warrnambool together with a 5 bed extended care unit and a 10 bed PARC will open in the new year.

This position would suit either newly qualified or about to qualify Consultant Psychiatrist interested in developing their expertise and helping shape service delivery, or more experienced psychiatrists interested in a sea change.  It would also suit overseas trained psychiatrists who are eligible for the RANZCP comparability pathway. 

South West Healthcare MHS is now accredited for full RANZCP training commencing in 2018. 

An attractive and competitive salary and benefits package is available. The successful applicant requires registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner, with a Fellowship of the RANZCP or qualifications and experience in Psychiatry assessed by the RANZCP as appropriate for the position.
