Position Details

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded community based emergency services organisations. We respond to fire and other emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whilst our firefighters are the cornerstone of CFA services, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important in helping to protect lives and property.

CFA staff and volunteers engage with and provide services to children in multiple contexts and environments both within the organisation and through the delivery of formal education programs and informal engagements at schools, community events and at fire stations. CFA has approximately 2500 members who are children.

Reporting to the Executive Manager, Health, Safety Environment & Wellbeing, the Lead, Child Safe Standards Implementation will be a project based position that will support the development and implementation of actions to achieve compliance with the Child Safe Standards, the Working with Children Act (2005) and other relevant legislation.

The position will also be responsible for supporting and providing technical and subject matter expertise to CFA's Child Safety Officer in the implementation of the Child Safe Standards and changes to the Working with Children Act (2005).

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services or Social Welfare, Psychology or Behavioural Science or other related field and/or proven experience undertaking a similar partnering role in a large and complex organisation
  • Specialist skills and expertise in Victoria's Child Safe Standards and implementation of standards in large complex organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate legislation into tactical action plans that meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Proven ability to provide consultancy and specialist advice to managers and employees and to use analytical and conceptual skills to solve problems and implement workable solutions which respond to a range of Child Safe organisational issues. 
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects and project teams involving diverse technical and specialist input to successfully manage complex projects and competing expectations of multiple stakeholders within time and budget constraints.
