Position Details

The Conduct & Compliance Business Unit is responsible for the conduct of investigations, disciplinary proceedings and litigation in relation to concerns about teachers' professional conduct as well as the conduct of audits to ensure compliance with teacher registration requirements.

Reporting to a Senior staff member within the Unit, the Legal Support Officer will be required to work closely with all members of the Conduct and Compliance Business Unit to ensure appropriate legal assistance is provided throughout the course of regulatory activity. Other duties include: 

  • Communicating effectively with complainants/notifiers drawing on a good understanding of current regulatory issues facing the teaching profession.
  • Preparing legal correspondence as required.
  • Undertaking preliminary inquiries with external stakeholders in relation to matters for potential investigation.
  • Analysing facts and preparing corporate reports on professional conduct and workload trends to support decision-making.
  • Preparing short reports to communicate changes to legislation and emerging case law affecting the work area to members within the Conduct and Compliance Unit.
  • Establishing and maintaining a database of legal precedents for use by the Conduct and Compliance Unit.

 To be considered for this role you will require: 

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • High level organisation, planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Resilience and flexibility.
  • Evidence of study toward completion of a legal related qualification is preferred.
  • Experience providing legal support in a regulatory environment is desirable.
