  • Fixed Term Role – 36 Months
  • Flexible Working Arrangements
  • The GA office is at the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club, Lightwood Rd, Springvale, Victoria. However, the successful applicant does not need to perform their duties at this location or reside in Victoria to fulfil the role
  • Some Interstate and/or overseas travel may be required

Greyhounds Australasia Ltd (GA) is a private company with limited member liability, GA is committed to an industry with high levels of integrity and an overarching commitment of animal welfare throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The role of GA Independent Chair includes independent and impartial chairing of GA Directors' and GA Member meetings, providing advice, guidance and support to Directors and other duties and functions as delegated by the Board and reasonably required by the GA Constitution. 

The role also ensures GA acts in accordance with the requirements of the Corporations Act 2001 and as required and directed by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following attributes:

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong demonstrated working experience and competencies leading a Board of Directors
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Strong demonstrated working capability to promote productive and professional relationships with, and between, GA's CEO, Directors from each of the represented jurisdictions and key industry stakeholders, including member Boards, Racing and other Ministers, and participant groups
  • Demonstrated commitment to GA's values and vision
  • An understanding of the challenges and opportunities of greyhound racing in the current environment
  • Proven capability to conduct effective media interviews when required
  • Demonstrated capability in using Microsoft Office and/or a knowledge of the format/software used for generating reports, agendas, minutes, emails, etc at GA
  • Always behaving in a professional way in all respects in the interests of GA and its members
  • Strong demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to key stakeholders and to national media

Desirable Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications – a legal qualification would be an advantage
  • Professional memberships
  • Proven record in leading Boards, ideally within the not for profit sector
  • Understanding of the environment within which all racing codes operate
