The Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) was established in September 2017 as the primary regulator and source of independent advice to Government about how the public sector collects, uses and shares information. OVIC has combined oversight of freedom of information (FOI), privacy, and data protection, merging the functions of the previous Offices of the Privacy and Data Protection Commissioner and Freedom of Information Commissioner. OVIC's mandate is to deliver more proactive and integrated public access, privacy and data protection leadership in Victoria, particularly by driving the cultural shifts necessary to improve the way government manages and provides access to information. It also enables the consistent application of a regulatory approach across those areas.

Position Details

The Case Management Assistant is a central administrative and operational support for the effective performance of the office. A large part of the role is to also provide information to members of the public, stakeholders and agencies about FOI and privacy procedures and the functions of the Information Commissioner. 

The Case Management Assistant has a major role in the operations of the Commissioner's case management system and information technology.
The role contributes to educational activities and other projects as required. The primary focus of the key accountabilities will vary from time to time in response to the flow of complaints and applications for review and the project work being undertaken across the organisation.

Under the guidance of the Manager of Operations, the Case Management Assistant is responsible for assisting with the receipt and handling of:
• reviews and complaints regarding the management of primary FOI requests; and
• privacy complaints and data protection enquiries.
