Position Details

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded community based emergency services organisations. We respond to fire and other emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whilst our firefighters are the cornerstone of CFA services, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important in helping to protect lives and property.

The Communications Operations (MCO) is primarily responsible for the effective whole of life management and support of CFA's substantial portfolio of communications infrastructure. Communications provides critical voice and data connectivity of CFA members involved in all categories of operational response.

Working closely with the ICT Services Team, F&EM Directorate, Senior Managers, staff and volunteers, the MCO will ensure that CFA has the appropriate policies, processes and resources in place to ensure strategically located and maintained assets are ready to support CFA's service delivery obligations to Victorian communities.

Leading the Communications Operations group, the position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining CFA's extensive voice and data distribution networks, assessing new communications and telecommunications technology, managing vendor relationships and developing & representing CFA's strategic interests with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership to staff and foster a productive work environment.
  • Ability to constructively contribute to the strategic direction and business planning for ICT Services  
  • Ability to assess and quantify risk around the use and management of CFA and non-CFA communications infrastructure
  • Technical expertise in data communications at a system and/or product level and the ability to apply this in CFA's environment
  • Sound and demonstrated interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with customers.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to write work-related documents in relation to technical matters.
  • Proven management experience (and/or management qualifications) involving management of staff. Experience in managing the delivery of services in the communications industry.
  • A high level understanding of information and communications technology trends and factors influencing the rate and direction of likely changes.
