AWH is undergoing some exciting changes in the delivery of its Mental Health services to our community and as such an exciting and unique opportunity exists for a motivated individual to join the Senior Executive Team at AWH in the role of Director of Mental Health.


Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is the largest Victorian Regional Public Health Service outside of Geelong and the only cross border health service nationally, with main campuses located at Albury and Wodonga. Albury Wodonga Health provides a range of acute, mental health, aged and primary health and community support services across northeast Victoria and southeast NSW.


The mental health service is funded to $42M with 287 EFT and has a geographical responsibility of 55,000 square kilometres servicing a population of 250,000, functioning under two Mental Health Acts and other associated legislations. Victoria is the lead state and receives funding from NSW to support services.


The Director of Mental Health is responsible for leading and managing this service. This includes leading it through its next exciting phase of development to establish a unified cross border service and centre of excellence.  


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and workforce reform.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve significant change and improvement that is based on evidence and models of best practice.
  • Demonstrated high level time management skills, capacity to provide strategic advice and deliver budget and service targets within agreed timeframes.
  • High level experience in monitoring and evaluating service delivery and developing strategies for continuous quality improvement that includes new approaches and improvement strategies.
  • A degree from a recognised tertiary institution in such areas as health management, health policy and planning, business or associated fields and/or demonstrated successful experience at executive or senior management level and a commitment to ongoing professional development.


Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.


Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.


This is a Category A position.  Successful applicants of Category A positions must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
