Position Details

Ambulance Victoria (AV) is excited to welcome applications for the newly created position of Senior Pharmacist.  This role offers an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and professional Pharmacist who will be responsible for supervising the operations of a dispensary across Ambulance Victoria, monitoring quality control; ensuring proper records maintenance; assigning personnel; and ensuring compliance with Ambulance Victoria policies and State regulations.  This is a full time, ongoing position based at AV's Thomastown headquarters.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager Supply Services, the main duties of the role include (but are not limited to):

•Overseeing the management of restricted and non-restricted medications which may include bulk ordering, liaison with wholesalers and pharmaceutical companies;

•Monitoring medication inventories across AV to ensure adequate supply at all times;

•Direct line management of Delivery Pharmacists and coordination of their rosters, as well as monitoring the quality of their work;

•Setting and monitoring the appropriate imprest levels for each of the AV branches;

•Programming, directing, reviewing and rectifying pharmacy and medication delivery procedures

•Providing advice to AV regarding best practice quality use of medicines across the organisation and participating in relevant committees and meetings as appropriate; and

•Setting up and maintaining a certified system of record keeping and the preparing a yearly budget.

About you

The successful candidate will be a tertiary qualified Pharmacist and possess superior administrative and organisational skills.  They will exhibit the ability to work and communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and other health professionals, as well as other key internal stakeholders.

Registered as a pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) / Pharmacy Board of Australia, the candidate will be experienced in the Quality Use of Medicine activities and overseeing other pharmacists.  They will possess demonstrated proactive, constructive and creative approaches to problem solving for both individual patients and service development.

Finally, the applicant will be an excellent communicator in every sense and will thrive in inter-professional team environments.  They will possess excellent leadership skills and have a strong focus on continuous quality improvement, as well as a strong commitment to best practice.

Please note this position will require the applicant to participate in weekend, late-shift and on-call rosters as required.  Applicants must also possess a current Victorian Driver License and be prepared to travel throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria as required, including some overnight travel to regional areas.

The Senior Pharmacist will be employed as a Grade 3, Year 1 Pharmacist in accordance with the Victorian Hospital Pharmacy Award.
