Position Details

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded community based emergency services organisations. We respond to fire and other emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whilst our firefighters are the cornerstone of CFA services, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important in helping to protect lives and property.

About the Role:

The H&S Manager is part of the Health, Safety & Environment Team within the People & Culture support directorate of CFA.  People & Culture is one of several support directorates that support our primary service delivery directorate; Fire & Emergency Management.

The H&S Manager is intended to enable main office and field based health & safety team members as well as influence senior managers and executives to manage health & safety risks according to industry standards and in collaboration with them facilitate continuous improvement in outcomes for all CFA members.

Primarily the H&S Manager will need to build the capability of the Health, Safety & Environment Team to provide the necessary governance and expert health & safety advice, report on whole of business trends and issues and find and engage with other parts of the organization as they manage their health & safety risks.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Graduate qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Science or Engineering (Desirable)
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in the application of the OH&S Act and Regulation requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding Health, Safety, Environment and Quality management systems including AS4801
  • Knowledge and experience in the interpretation of Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills and a high level of interpersonal, negotiating, counselling and diplomacy skills
  • Proven ability to liaise confidently with external providers, management and staff on safety issues of a technical nature
  • Strong project management and change management capability
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to deal with discrimination, harassment and workplace bullying issues.
