About us

The Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a 954 bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region, Department of Justice and Community Safety.

About the role

As a Prison Industry staff member you will be responsible for industry training, work and employment in the prison environment.

As the Industry Officer – Timber at MRC, you will play a significant and important role in training and assessing prisoners in relevant accredited trade skills units according to the specific work environment. In this role, you will:

  • as part of a team, work to ensure the operational aims of the MRC Industries are achieved. These include ordering and maintaining control of stock, materials, financial records and providing an industry model workplace training environment
  • effectively manage all work areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors in compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety and security procedures
  • participate in processes of continuous improvement applying solutions to address local issues and problems.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • sound knowledge of OH&S requirements relevant to the trade area, relevant legislative responsibilities related to employment supervision and training of industry workers.
  • excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to supervise and motivate
  • qualification in a Trade area related to the needs of the Timber area.
  • completion of (or willing to undertake) Prison Officer Pre-Service training

A Certificate IV in Training and Assessing (TAA) is highly desirable.
