Position Details

VMIA is the largest government insurer in the southern hemisphere and protects more $201 billion in State assets for Victoria.

We are not a commercial insurer, we exist to serve Victoria and insure it's people and places; its institutions and infrastructure; icons and heritage.

Our role is more than insurance though, we help Victorian government entities anticipate risks – both current and emerging – so they can make informed decisions and move forward with confidence.

The opportunity with us

In response to changes in the business environment and advances in technology, we're changing the way we work.  Our new model has been designed to deliver value through strategic partnering, drive performance and financial leadership.  Multiple opportunities have been created and we're ready to meet people willing to ‘get busy', challenge the status-quo, learn and share their expertise so we can build a team that is inspired and prepared for the future.

As our Statutory Accountant, you make sure we have appropriate controls and governance around our finances. You'll oversee our financial accounting requirements, tax, reporting and internal control processes. Having worked in accounting within the insurance industry for several years, you will be instrumental in making sure we meet legislative, compliance and fiduciary responsibilities.

What we're looking for

As one of our specialist roles, you've done this before. Preferably you're a CA or CPA and you've had experience in a similar role in technical insurance, investments and may even have led small teams. You've prepared the accounts before, including annual accounts and financial reporting.

We would encourage job applications from all genders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disabilities, people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Why join us?

We are proud of our friendly and inclusive culture. We support our people to be their best, encouraging work-life balance and offering benefits including:

  • All roles flex, with most of our workforce working flexibility
  • Competitive salary packages meeting our commitment to gender pay parity
  • Professional development empowering you to reach your potential
  • Work in the Paris end of Collins St and Flinders Lane in a building designed for collaboration, community and connectivity
  • Discounts with health insurance, fitness memberships and Myki travel
