Position Details

The Organisational Wellbeing team sits within the Fire and Emergency Management Directorate and is focused on the provision of strategic direction, support, advice and service provision of psychological health and safety. This includes the provision of Welfare Services (Peer Support, Chaplaincy and Psychological/Counselling support), equity and Diversity services and case management/coaching support for a range of issues impacting on the psychological health and safety of members.

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that CFA has the capacity to provide wellbeing and welfare services to all CFA members.  In particular, the role is responsible for ensuring that CFA's Peer Support Program has the capacity to meet member needs whilst complying with CFA's duty of care in respect to adequately training and equipping their members to perform such a role.

The position will ensure that the Peer Support Program is subject to continuous improvement and meets corporate governance guidelines, professional industry standards and accreditations.

In addition to the above, the position will work collaboratively to ensure that Organisational Wellbeing programs and services are delivered in a seamless and consistent manner to members and their families.

It will further ensure the achievement of program objectives through management of communications with key stakeholders and provision of advice and support to leaders, managers and peer coordinators.

Working directly with Volunteer members, the position requires extensive work outside of business hours.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources/Social Sciences or a related field and/or significant experience in the management of volunteer programs and services
  • Demonstrated experience in management of cases that involve mental health issues and demonstrated ability to update and maintain knowledge of psychological health and safety
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels within the organisation
  • Ability to provide advice and support on mental health difficulties,   mental illness and potentially traumatic events, as well as use of the appropriate supporting frameworks eg: Psychological First Aid.
  • Crisis response support,  coaching and guidance to Peer Support members and Chaplains across a broad range of mental health issues
