The promenade is very popular and you can walk, run, ride or skate along this scenic trail. Almost every year between June and September the Southern Right Whales return to the waters off Warrnambool and often swim within a hundred meters of the shore.

Position Details

Hospital Medical Officer Year Two (HMO2) applications for South West Healthcare are now invited for the 2020 year.  This advertising is in addition to advertising through the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). The HMO2 year is a general medical year offering experience in terms from the following options: Emergency, Paediatrics, Oncology, Women's Health, General Medicine, General Surgery, Rehabilitation Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and relieving. 

All our HMO2 positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process, conducted by the PMCV.

South West Healthcare is a fully integrated facility with a total of 282 beds (216 acute, 36 aged care and 30 mental health). Warrnambool Campus (212 beds) provides acute, rehabilitation and mental health care, together with extensive outpatient and community services. Wards include medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, six bed critical care unit, dialysis, emergency, inpatient psychiatry, GEM and rehabilitation. There are three fully equipped operating theatres and a separate endoscopy suite. 

Our hospital is considered one of the most modern and technologically advanced health services in regional Australia.  This enables us to provide world best-practice treatment, care and support to a catchment population of 110,000 spread across 10,323 square kilometres.  Only three hours drive from Melbourne with a direct train service three times per day, there are excellent facilities for education from preschool to university level, and opportunities to participate in all areas of the creative arts and sport.

South West Healthcare has approximately 16,000 admissions and 26,500 emergency department attendances per year. 

This position is employed at 76 hours per fortnight under the Victorian Public Health Sector – Doctors In Training Enterprise Agreement 2018-2021 at the classification of HM12 – Hospital Medical Officer Year 2.
