Position Details

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded community based emergency services organisations. We respond to fire and other emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whilst our firefighters are the cornerstone of CFA services, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important in helping to protect lives and property. 

Reporting to the District Operations Manager (OM), the District Business Manager (DBM) will be responsible for leading the provision of business management functions at the District.  This position will actively develop and sustain internal and external partnerships, providing advice and direction to all stakeholders on key business functions within the district. They will work closely with the region's Manager Business Coordination (MBC) and other DBM's to ensure consistent development and implementation of initiatives, policy and processes across districts. 

As a member of the District Leadership Team, the DBM will provide advice on a range of complex issues and contribute to the strategic and business planning for the District. 

The position will manage and lead the district support team to achieve high level customer support and corporate outcomes at a district level in accordance with CFA policy and procedure. The position will build strong partnerships and relationships across CFA business units, sector partners, and external stakeholders. 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business administration, management or relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in business administration/ office management or relevant discipline, including experience in managing business support services and resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of business plans within the constraints of a budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop a high performing team and a strong team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to think laterally and significant experience in the resolution of complex issues.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills including the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Highly developed organisational skills within a complex environment together with demonstrated skills in establishing priorities and meeting strict timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage business systems and processes to enhance service delivery capability and outcomes.
