About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid's (VLA) Chambers provides high quality advocacy and advice services to in house lawyers and is committed to the highest standards of advocacy. Reporting to the Chief Counsel, you will appear as counsel predominately in Civil Justice matters across various courts and tribunals in metro and regional locations across Victoria. You will have the ability to provide expert legal advice in a range of Civil Justice matters. You will also assist in developing the advocacy expertise of our Civil Justice lawyers through mentoring and training and contributing to our Professional Legal Education advocacy training programs.

This position offers a high degree of autonomy and responsibility and will provide you with the opportunity to use your advocacy expertise to contribute to quality legal practice in both Melbourne and regional areas.

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge and experience in the jurisdictions covered by the Civil Justice Program, including extensive experience in complex litigation, with a passion for advocating for clients. You will be able to demonstrate your experience in advocacy and providing high level advice on legal and policy within limited constraints. You will have the ability and aptitude for mentoring and training Civil Justice lawyers to develop their advocacy skills and demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively with others in fostering a supportive learning environment.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your ability to develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels. You will also have a passion for advocating for clients with complex issues and demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the promotion of the organisation and its values.
