Position Details

Ambulance Victoria (AV) is now recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join their Financial Management and Reporting team in the Finance and Corporate Services Division.  This is a full-time, permanent position based at AV's Doncaster headquarters. 

This role is responsible for ensuring all accounts in the subsidiary ledgers and the General Ledger are accurately maintained to reflect the true financial operations of the organisation and to provide support to the Financial Accounting team, namely in the preparation of various financial statements and management reports, undertaking analyses and participating in the implementation of process change initiatives and finance projects as required.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting & Reporting, the main duties of the role include (but are not limited to):

• Preparing, reviewing and entering accrual and allocation journals and completing and collating supporting documentation, including the validation of accrual information provided by the Business;

• Preparing, distributing and collecting monthly variance analysis and following up on outstanding queries and/or responses;

• Assisting with the preparation of accurate and timely working papers to support monthly and yearly cash flow reporting;

• Generating and running standard and non-standard reports for finance and other stakeholders as required;

• Maintaining records, journals, reconciliations etc. ensuring outstanding issues are followed up and any corrective action is undertaken on any reconciling items; and

• Developing and strengthening relationships with managers and stakeholders within AV and external to the organisation.

About you

The successful applicant will require a relevant tertiary qualification and be working towards or have completed an accounting qualification with relevant professional body membership (CPA, ICAA or equivalent program).   They will have a strong understanding of accounting concepts and practices and possess a demonstrated ability to utilise a multi-function computerised financial information system, including accounting and spreadsheet packages (preferably Oracle and Microsoft Excel).

Analytical and problem solving skills will be crucial in order to identify issues and take the appropriate course of action, as well as attention to detail to ensure accuracy in the recording of information.  Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will be a great team player with excellent communication skills and a high level of integrity to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and maintain confidentiality around sensitive issues.
