Position Details

As our Senior Claims Specialist reporting into the Property and Liability Claims Portfolio Manager within the Insurance Services Division, you will bring your significant claims expertise and strategic thinking approach to this role where you will be responsible for the end to end management, assessment and settlement of a discrete portfolio of claims that delivers client focused recovery solutions that restore confidence and build a more resilient Victoria

Working in a small team, you will play a key role in providing best practice strategic claims management; collaborating with internal stakeholders and external service providers, you are able to think on your feet to provide best solutions and to deliver high-quality claims outcomes. As a senior member of the team, you will provide guidance and advise through ongoing mentoring of the Claims Specialists and Claims Officers within the team, further enhancing the internal capability to identify, manage and resolve claims.

Drawing on your highly developed written and verbal communication, influencing and negotiation skills along with strong analytical and reporting skills and insurance industry knowledge, you'll use insights of trends within your portfolio to work with internal colleagues to educate clients and build their knowledge of emerging trends and strategies to reduce the level and frequency of claims.

To be successful in this role, you will have strong technical claims knowledge and be confident in working under pressure while maintaining resilience. You will have experience in preparing briefs for heads of departments and have a detailed understanding of the complexities and nuances of public sector management, with the capacity to operate successfully in such an environment.

About you

  • 5+ years of experience in a property and liability claims management role with an insurer or law firm, especially in the handling of the more technically complex matters including indemnity issues and litigation across most Victorian jurisdictions involving, public and products liability, professional indemnity, directors and officers, construction risk and general and catastrophe related property losses.
  • You are a seasoned professional with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, proven client relationship management experience and the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes
  • You have knowledge and experience in insurance claims management along with the capacity to analyse and interpret claims information and data sources. You can demonstrate how you have used this intel to identify trends and strategic opportunities for improvement
  • You have a demonstrated the capability to manage the performance of claims service providers to ensure that agreed service standards and fees are maintained.
  • A demonstrated experience ability to positively lead a team, influence outcomes and re-engineer business processes to ensure optimal performance
  • A clearly demonstrated depth of knowledge and experience in risk and insurance claims management, and the interaction with actuarial and audit procedures
  • A comprehensive and expert knowledge of claims management issues, challenges and directions, with broad experience in implementing and reviewing risk and insurance policy, programs and products
  • You hold a tertiary qualification in, Insurance, Business, Commerce, Finance, Law or relevant discipline (highly desirable).
